We know now the reason why Boban Nikolov wasn’t called up by the Macedonian U21 national team for the qualifier against Portugal U21 on 5 March.  Several of our readers asked about the reason for the exclusion of Nikolov in the comments section, so we reached out to Boban for comment.

Nikolov told us that he is suffering from a groin strain injury that has prevented him from training for the past two weeks.  Furthermore, Boban said that it’s a tricky injury and doctors don’t know whether he will miss one more week or one more month.  The timetable of the injury varies from player to player.  In the meantime, he has been advised to rest as to not aggravate the injury.

The 19-year-old Nikolov has been one of the better performers for the U21 national team over the past couple of months.  He has already tallied 2 goals in just four caps.  Boban is a versatile player as he has mainly suited up at right-back and midfield for his club team Viitorul, while he plays primarily in an attacking role for Macedonia U21.
