Goalkeeper Tome Pacovski, a member of Beerschot, is being linked with a move to Mechelen where he would replace Olivier Renard.
According to newspaper reports out of Belgium, Pacovski has already agreed to personal terms with Mechelen but his potential new club and Beerschot still need to agree on a transfer fee. Mechelen views Tome as a perfect replacement for veteran keeper Olivier Renard, who is in a similar situation as Pacovski. Renard has agreed to personal terms with Standard Liège but that club and Mechelen have yet to agree on a transfer fee at this point. If the Renard transfer to Standar Liège becomes finalized, then Pacovski is fully expected to continue his career with Mechelen.
Tome wants to start regularly and that is not guaranteed at Beerschot with the presence of Stijn Stijnen. Pacovski only started most of the games for Beerschot this past season because Stijnen was sidelined with a couple of injuries. In addition, Beerschot will have a new manager next season and that added uncertainty has led Pacovski to prefer a move to Mechelen.
In the recently concluded Belgian league season, Mechelen finished one point ahead of Beerschot in the regular season standings. Pacovski made 18 league appearances, spent 10 games on the bench as the #2 keeper, and missed the final 2 games due to a foot operation. His potential new club, Mechelen, has won four league titles in its history, with the last one coming in the 1988/89 season.
