After reviewing the performances of Macedonian football players over the month of May, we put a list of the best starting 11 during that span. We compiled stats such as games played, goals, assists and clean sheets to determine which players deserved to be on the team.
The selections for the month of May were a little more challenging since many leagues ended early in the month, and some of the Macedonian internationals who play in the better leagues did not qualify for the team. As for the players who were chosen, the team of the month for May features a 4-4-2 formation.
Kristijan Naumovski
The goalkeeper choice on the team of the month was fairly easy. Naumovski stood out with his performances for Dinamo Bucureşti, coupled with a lack of other quality options for the month of May. Naumovski featured in five games for Dinamo in May and kept two clean sheets, including one in the Romanian Cup final when his side recorded a 1:0 win over Rapid Bucureşti.
Goran Siljanovski
The selections of the entire defense was particularly difficult, including the right-back position. It eventually came down to Goran Siljanovski or Milan Ilievski, but the former was given the edge. Siljanovski partook in five games for Renova during the month and was credited with a goal and an assist. He was in the squad that defeated Rabotnichki in the Macedonian Cup final.
Nikola Tonev
The two center-back positions were the most difficult selections on the team. No domestic players stood out at the position and with many of the higher profile CB’s from abroad not eligible due to a lack of games, Nikola Tonev from Sunkar was given the nod at right CB. Tonev played in four games for Sunkar in May and was part of defenses that kept three clean sheets.
Shakjir Redjepi
At left CB, the choice was Shakjir Redjepi from Slovak side Košice. Redjepi played the maximum 360 minutes in four league games as his team went undefeated in the month. Košice only conceded two goals in the four games, holding two clean sheets and collecting four draws.
Dimitrija Lazarevski
Lazarevski featured in four games for Astana in the month of May, and his team kept a clean sheet in every single game. During that stretch, Astana won three games and drew one.
Filip Timov
The 20-year-old Timov concluded a successful month with three goals in four games for Impuls. Timov has been in very good form which saw him get called up to the Macedonian U21 national team.
Muharem Bajrami
Bajrami was chosen as one of the central midfielders after a great May with six goals in six combined games for Renova. Bajrami scored one of his goals in the domestic cup final against Rabotnichki.
Mario Gjurovski
Gjurovski continues to be a mainstay on the team of the month with his outstanding performances in Thailand. Mario compiled four goals and three assists in five games for Muagthong United, leading his team to four wins and a draw. However, the month came to a bad end for Gjurovski who was shown a red card in the dying moments of the last league game.
Krste Velkoski
Velkoski won a spot on the team by putting together four goals and three assists in six games for Rabotnichki during the month of May. Krste is a versatile attacker who can play numerous positions, but he is slotted on the left side of midfield in this particular formation.
Goran Pandev
Goran played in four games for Napoli in May and collected two asissts in addition to winning a penalty for his team as well. He displayed solid performances which culminated with an assist to Marek Hamšík in the Italian Cup final which Napoli won 2:0 over Juventus.
Adis Jahovic
Jahovic makes his first appearance on the team of the month after scoring four goals in four games for Wil in the month of May. Overall, Jahovic concluded a very good season by scoring sixteen goals, and was especially dominant in the second half of the season in which he netted thirteen of his goals.
