Napoli was unable to defend its 3:1 lead from the first leg and was ultimately eliminated from the competition.  Chelsea led 3:1 after 90 minutes so the game went into extra time since it was 4:4 on aggregate, and each team won with the same score at home.  Serbian defender Branislav Ivanović fired a shot past the Napoli keeper in the 105th minute which proved to be the decisive goal that lead Chelsea into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Goran Pandev entered the game for Napoli in the 106th minute, at the start of the second 15 minute period of extra time, replacing Marek Hamsik.  Napoli even brought on another attacking minded player in Eduardo Vargas but a goal would not come so the Italian side was eliminated from the competition.  Goran did attempt a shot in the 117th minute but it went wide of the goal.

With the elimination of Goran Pandev and Napoli, Ivan Trickovski of APOEL becomes the lone Macedonian player in the last 8 of the UEFA Champions League.  Ivan and APOEL will find out their opponent for the quarter-finals on Friday when the draw is held in Nyon, Switzerland.  Besides APOEL, the other seven teams still active in the prestigious competition are Barcelona, Real Madrid, Milan, Bayern München, Chelsea, Benfica, and Marseille.
