Nikolce Noveski bothered by thigh strain

Mainz captain Nikolce Noveski is unlikely to play for Mainz during Saturday’s game against Kaiserslautern due to a thigh strain.

Nikolce Noveski was unable to participate in today’s training due to a thigh strain and the Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel said that Noveski would be questionable for Saturday’s derby against Kaiserslautern.  However, even if Noveski feels ready to play by Saturday, the manager did say he was leaning towards starting Jan Kirchhoff and Niko Bungert in the centre of the Mainz defense.

The thigh strain injury could also force Noveski to withdraw from the Macedonian national team for the upcoming friendly against Luxembourg on 29 February.  The match takes place in six days so both Noveski and Mainz are likely to prefer for the player to recover in Germany instead of traveling and risking further damage to the thigh for a meaningless friendly in late February.
