Macedonian First League – Round 17

First League - Round 17Rabotnicki finally recorded a win after eight consecutive losses in league play, Vardar and Metalurg were held to road draws, while Bregalnica continued their solid form with another win.

The eight game losing streak of Rabotnicki finally came to an end with a 3:1 home victory over last placed 11 Oktomvri.  This was also the first league win for Rabotnicki’s new manager Gjore Jovanovski as the goalscorers for the home side were Filip Petkovski, Dusan Savić and Borce Manevski.  The the visiting club from Prilep scored a consolation goal in the 79th minute through Blagoja Gesoski.

The table leaders Vardar had a 1:0 lead after only 10 minutes in Kratovo against Sileks but they could not put the game away and Sileks then managed to score the equalizing goal in the 80th minute thanks to a strike from Serbian player Mirko Jovanović.  Lico was on target for Vardar.  However, Vardar did not lose any ground on the table as second placed Metalurg was also held to a road draw against Renova in Tetovo.  Renova took the lead in the 12th minute when Boban Jancevski converted a penalty.  To make matters worse for Metalurg, defender Igor Kralevski was given a straight red card for a bad foul that led to the penalty.  Metalurg kept it late and tied the game at 1:1 in the 90th minute after Baze Ilijoski scored directly from a free kick, although the visitors should also be thankful for the bad goalkeeping by Renova keeper Armend Elezi.

In the other games, Bregalnica continued their solid form with another win, this time 2:0 against struggling Teteks.  Napredok also clinched an important home win against fellow relegation contenders Horizont Turnovo with the lone goal being scored by striker Dejan Cvetanoski just before halftime.  Ohrid vs. Shkendija will conclude the round on Monday after that game was moved back two days due to the latter club participating in a recent tournament in Kosovo.
