Round 13

Macedonian First League – Round 13

Round 13Vardar recorded a come from behind victory over city rival Rabotnicki, Metalurg squeezed past Horizont Turnovo on the road, while Shkendija was held to a 2:2 draw against 11 Oktomvri.

Most eyes were on Boris Trajkovski stadium where the derby between Rabotnicki and Vardar took place.  The match was officiated by Maltese referees as veteran striker Borce Manevski opened the scoring in the 24th minute for Rabotnicki with a well located shot past Vardar keeper Kostadin Zahov.  Things did not look good for Vardar when attacker Vlatko Grozanoski received two yellow cards in the span of seven minutes, with the second one coming in the 72nd minute and thus leading to a red card.  However, captain Filip Ivanovski came to the rescue for Vardar and scored two goals to hand his team the narrow road victory.  First, in the 78th minute, Filip Ivanovski leveled the score at 1:1 by surprising Rabotnicki keeper Stole Dimitrievski and then scored the game winning goal deep into stoppage time of the 90th minute to help Vardar maintain their lead at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, in Turnovo, Metalurg stayed five points behind Vardar for second place by barely getting past Horizont Turnovo 2:1.  Veterans Baze Ilijoski and Mile Krstev scored two goals in the span of two minutes between the 31st and 33rd minute to give Metalurg a 2:0 lead going into the break.  Turnovo pulled one goal back in the 80th minute when Aleksandar Milusev converted a penalty but that proved to be the final goal of the game as Metalurg was able to hang on to their slim road victory.

In the other games, the most surprising result occurred in Strumica where last placed 11 Oktomvri held the defending league champions Shkendija to a 2:2 draw.  The match was played in Strumica since the stadium in Prilep was banned to 11 Oktomvri for six games.  It could have been worse for Shkendija since they scored the equalizing 2:2 goal in the 90th minute when Nebi Mustafi converted a penalty.  As for the the other two encounters in the round, Renova managed to edge Sileks 2:0 with Muarem Bajrami scoring a goal in each half for the home side while Bregalnica notched a slim 1:0 road victory over Napredok in Kicevo.  Recent new signing Genc Hyseni scored the lone goal of the game to hand Bregalnica their third consecutive win in league play.
