Daniel Ivanovski told Swedish newspaper Nyhetspressen that he dreams of a chance to play for the Macedonian national team.  Daniel said, “I really hope that this might be my chance to play in Lisbon (the match against Portugal will actually be played in the city of Leiria) with Pandev and company.  If I get a chance on the national team and play in the game against Portugal, it would be a great opportunity to showcase one’s abilities to an international audience.”

In the first four games of the 2012 season, Ivanovski has played the maximum 360 minutes for Mjällby at right-back.  In addition to RB, Ivanovski mostly played CB last season so he has shown the versatility to play several defensive positions.  Daniel originally joined Mjällby in 2006 from Vardar.

The 28-year-old Ivanovski told the newspaper that he feels the location of Sweden, by being far away from Macedonia, has played a factor in him being left out of the national team.  He noted, “There is no guarantee that the national team management will come here and look.  There are players in other European leagues that are closer to Macedonia.”

The senior national team of Macedonia will face Portugal on 26 May in the city of Leiria.  Portugal will use the match as preparation for the EURO 2012 championships while Macedonian manager John Toshack will utilize the friendly in anticipation of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers that start in early September.  It is likely that Macedonia will schedule another friendly to be held on 30 May or 1 June since that was the original plan of Toshack who wanted multiple friendlies to test the players.
