Defender Boban Grncarov told Belgian newspapers that he is unlikely to remain with Lierse who have already started searching for alternatives to Grncarov.
Boban Grncarov only signed a 1 year with Lierse in the past summer transfer window so Belgian newspapers asked Grncarov about his future with the season coming to an end in the near future. Boban answered, “At the moment, it is unlikely that I will stay with Lierse for next season. The club and I can’t agree on the financial parameters of a new contract. I will wait to see if anything changes in the future. However, I can say that I’m not in any hurry and will not make a decision under pressure.”
Meanwhile, the Lierse technical director Ruud Kaiser has already started searching for alternatives to Grncarov. One of the players mentioned as a possibility was Norichio Nieveld from Dutch club Excelsior. Kaiser said, “Norichio Nieveld is one of the candidates for the likely departure of Grncarov, but he is not the only one on our list. We have two or three other players under consideration.”
Grncarov was a regular for Lierse this season and has made 28 league appearances thus far in which he scored two goals. Lierse has played 33 league games to date and Boban only missed some matches due to a multi-game suspension for an incident in which he pulled the hair of Standard Liège defender Felipe. Lierse struggled in league play but was able to avoid relegation while also reaching the semi-finals of the domestic cup where they were eliminated by Lokeren, the eventual winners of the competition. There are three more games before the end of the season in Belgium.
