Vardar, Metalurg and Renova learned their possible opponents for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League competitions.
If Vardar gets past BATE and advances to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, they will play against the winner of the matchup between Albanian side Skënderbeu and Debrecen from Hungary. The first leg between these two teams was played in Albania and the hosts hold a 1:0 advantage heading into the return leg. This is a great opportunity for Vardar should they manage to eliminate BATE. As a reminder, in the first leg played in Borisov, Vardar fell short 2:3 after conceding two late goals.
Renova’s odds are very slim with the result from the first leg. Having lost 0:2 at home to Gomel, they will be looking to pull of a miracle in Belarus in order to advance to the third qualifying round of UEFA Europa League. But, if they somehow get to the next round, the opponent will be English giants Liverpool, a club that Rabotnichki faced several years ago in the same competition.
Metalurg led 0:1 after 70 minutes of football in Poland, but somehow managed to lose 3:1 to Ruch. In the return leg, Metalurg will be chasing a two goal margin victory. If they manage to overcome the deficit and win on aggregate, Metalurg will play against the winner of the clash between Metalurg Rustavi and Viktoria Plzeň. Viktoria from the Czech Rapubliv is likely to advance after winning the first leg away from home 1:3.
The 4th Macedonian team that featured in the European competitions, Shkendija, was already eliminated by Northern Ireland side Portadown who is now facing Slaven Belupo. Slaven won the first leg 6:0 and will face the UEFA Europa League vice-champions Athletic Bilbao in the next round.
