Newspapers in Cyprus are reporting that APOEL may have interest in Valmir Nafiu.
Valmir Nafiu is currently expendable and transfer listed by German club Hamburg since he is no longer in their plans. Nafiu has a contract until this summer, but Hamburg will not present any problems if Valmir agrees to join another team before the end of the winter transfer window.
Today, many Cypriot newspapers linked Nafiu with APOEL, one of the top clubs in that country. This is how thus rumor came about. Thorsten Fink, the German coach, was named APOEL manager earlier this month. Fink has twice signed Nafiu (while he managed Basel and then Hamburg) and now could do so again at APOEL.
Several years ago, Nafiu moved from Shkendija to Basel after he had a successful trial with the Swiss club. The manager at that time was Fink who then departed Basel to take over at Hamburg. While in Germany, Fink once again signed Nafiu, but later he would be dismissed by Hamburg after a series of bad results.
Now, with Fink getting hired at APOEL and the fact that Nafiu is available, Cypriot media are speculating that Valmir, a member of the Macedonian U21 national team, could end up with that club. We shall see how accurate that turns out to be.
