Central defender Aleksandar Vasoski decided to retire from football after numerous knee surgeries have forced him to cut his career short.
The 31-year-old Vasoski was forced to make a very tough decision. He had knee problems and after having several medical surgeries in Germany, he was advised by the doctors that the best decision would be to stop playing professional football, so Aleksandar came to the hardest decision of any athlete which is to retire from their respective sport.
Vasoski was born in Skopje on 21.11.1979. He started his career in the Metalurg Skopje youth system before moving to neighboring club FK Skopje. Cementarnica 55 was his first professional club where he spent 2 seasons before moving to the famous club Vardar where he made his name and became champion of Macedonia for two consecutive seasons. From Vardar he transferred to German side Eintracht Frankfurt where he played for a total of 6 years and made 119 appearances. Unfortunately, he had numerous injury problems, mostly knee problems, and was never able to realize his full potential. Now, the time has come for Vasoski to make the tough decision of retiring from football: ‘I feel bad, I wanted to end my career in Vardar, to reach 100 appearances for the club. But, I cannot go against my health – I know this is the most important thing for me. I will now obtain the needed licenses to become a coach, starting from March of next year. Football has given everything to me, so it is now time for me to give back. I think I have enough experience to share my knowledge with the coming generations’ – Vasoski told Ekipa.mk.
Vasoski made 33 appearances for the senior national team and was first capped in 2002. From those caps, he scored 2 goals for Macedonia. Vasoski signed a deal with Greek club Kavala earlier in the summer, but the club had problems with match-fixing and was therefore relegated to the lowest tier which meant Vasoski was free to search for a new club. He was all set to rejoin Vardar but he recently underwent another surgery in Germany and was told to retire from football.
