The injury by Goran Pandev is not serious as Napoli announced on their official website that the Macedonian attacker will be out of action for about 15 days.
The reports out of Macedonia that Pandev would miss two months turned out to be false. Napoli released a statement on their website today stating that Pandev has suffered a muscle strain injury on his left leg and will only miss approximately two weeks.
So, with the international break, Pandev is only scheduled to miss two games, the league game against Parma on 15 October and the Champions League encounter against Bayern München three days later. Pandev was a nemesis for the German giants last season as his late goal during the return leg in Germany propelled his former club Inter to get past Bayern München and advance to the next round of the competition.
Some newspapers reported that Pandev suffered the injury during training for Macedonia but that was not true. Pandev did arrive in Macedonia with the rest of his teammates but after being looked over by the team doctor Viktor Kamiloski, it was decided that Pandev was nursing an injury and it would be best for him to return to Napoli for treatment.
The injury actually occurred during the Inter vs. Napoli match this past Saturday. Pandev was not running well and his movement didn’t threaten the Inter defenders but now we know that the injury did cause some of those struggles that led to his early substitution in the 2nd half. Pandev will undergo physiotherapy over the next four days and then begin a special training program on Monday.
