Overview of Round 29 in the First League

Asani was the hero for VardarVardar and Rabotnichki played an entertaining 2:2 draw, Pelister closed the gap on struggling Turnovo to only one point for the 8th position, while Shkendija needed two late goals to overcome a stubborn Sileks defense.

Shkendija utilized two late goals to down Sileks. The home side defended bravely for over 75 minutes, but fatigue then set in and Shkendija managed to score two goals. Bojan Vručina scored the opener in the 76th minute on a tap-in from close range, while substitute Hristijan Kirovski notched the second goal minutes after being introduced. He made one dribble before slotting a left footed shot past the Sileks keeper. Shkendija looks to have locked up the third spot on the table, since Renova (game in hand) will now need a miracle to overtake that position.

Still, that goal was not enough as Turnovo lost yet another match.

Vardar and Rabotnichki played an entertaining game in Skopje. Rabotnichki looked a lot more dangerous and took a deserving lead in the 25th minute when Chuma Anene slotted a shot past Pachovski after receiving a good through ball. Vardar’s problems expanded even more since two of their starting defenders, Dino Najdoski and Hovhannes Hambardzumyan, had to leave due to injuries, all by the 30th minute. At halftime, Rabotnichki maintained its 1:0 lead as Vardar fans booed their team. The 2nd half saw a drastic turn of events. Jasir Asani, who came on for the injured Hambardzumyan, scored two goals to give Vardar a 2:1 lead, the second coming in the 75th minute on a rebound opportunity. That result, if it stood, would have given Vardar the league title, but it wasn’t meant to be on Wednesday. Just like Asani, Anene also notched his second goal when he sent his effort to the back of the net following a corner kick. Rabotnichki then dominated the final 10 minutes, but Tome Pachovski saved all of their efforts to keep the game tied at 2:2. In the end, Vardar will take this result as they remained six points ahead of Rabotnichki.

Renova, however, would have the last laugh as substitute Blagojche Markoski got on the scoresheet minutes after being introduced. He grabbed the match winner in the 80th minute.
