Due to injury problems in central defense, Vardar has decided to sign Yevhen Novak from Ukraine.
At this time, Vardar only has three healthy players in central defense after the injuries to Zlatko Tanevski and Boban Grncharov. Those two guys also happen to be the captain and vice-captain of Vardar, but the club does not know when they will return to action. Behind them, Vardar is very thin. They just have Nemanja Mijušković, Darko Velkovski and Dino Najdoski.
Mijušković has been solid so far, Velkovski is someone who Vardar would rather play in defensive midfield, while Najdoski is not even in the picture. The coaching staff has no confidence in Najdoski, despite him being on the roster. Therefore, Vardar would be in real trouble if something also happened to Mijušković and/or Velkovski.
That is why Yevhen Novak was signed on Monday. He is a 26-year-old CB who will add some depth at the position. Novak was on trial with Vardar earlier in the summer, but he was not signed back then. That changed today given the current situation. Novak signed a 1 year deal with the option to extend his contract for an additional two seasons.
