Vance Sikov told Volyn’s official website that he chose to sign with Volyn over APOEL this past summer because the Ukrainian league is stronger and has more teams that are known across Europe.  He also said that the league in Ukraine is more competitive from top to bottom by featuring more hard fought games and that is the football he prefers.

When asked about when he started to play football, Sikov answered, “I decided to become a professional footballer in 1994.  That year was the World Cup in the USA and I fell in love with the game.  Soon thereafter, I was accepted to the youth system of my hometown club Tikves from Kavadarci.  I have always played CB and after featuring for the Macedonian U17 national team, I was spotted by scouts of Greek club Skoda Xanthi who decided to sign me professionally at a young age.”

Vance then called Macedonian national team manager John Toshack a fantastic coach.  He said, “John, a fantastic coach. I have played in all the matches since he became the manager of the national team.  Obviously, we failed in these previous qualifications by only finishing ahead of Andorra.  However, I am confident that Toshack will turn things around, especially now that we have more experienced players who are playing in good leagues across Europe.”

Vance was then asked if there are any differences between the managers of Macedonia and Volyn.  Sikov replied, “It’s tough to say, every coach is different in his own way, but I can say that both managers have the same love for football and try to reach out to every player.”

Vance Sikov is currently leading a poll on Volyn’s website about the best player on the team during the first half of the season.  After 4290 votes, Sikov has received the most votes from Volyn fans.  He has 1481 votes or a percentage of 34.5%.  His closest competitor is Brazilian striker Maicon Oliveira who is in second place with 1254 votes or 29.2% of the vote.  The poll will be available until 31 December 2011 but Sikov stands in a good position to be named the best player on the team.
