Although the odds are still long with a tough road fixture against Serbia, Macedonia U21 will control its destiny and aim to achieve something that the senior team has never done.  That is to qualify for a major competition which in this case is the 2013 European Championships in Israel for the U21 national teams.

First, however, Macedonia faces a must win game away to Serbia.  Then, they will need Denmark to slip up in their match against Northern Ireland.  There are other scenarios to advance as well, but everyone involves three points in the Serbia qualifier.

So, no calculations are needed at this point – Macedonia needs to attack and win – with a bigger margin win being most desirable for Boban Babunski’s boys.  Serbia is in first place but has still not qualified for a play-off spot so they have a lot to play for in tomorrow’s game.  They need at least a point to definitely finish in the top two, but will surely go for the win with the game being at home.  In the first meeting between these two teams, it finished 1:1 with Serbia opening the scoring in the 73rd minute through substitute Sasa Marković while Ferhan Hasani equalized for Macedonia in the 88th minute by converting a penalty.

This match will be played at the Mladost Stadium in Kruševac with the main referee being Oliver Drachta of Austria.  It kicks off at 19.00 CET.  At the same time, Denmark will face Northern Ireland in Aalborg.

Babunski’s boys are very close to achieving something historic for Macedonian football.  It is a difficult mission, but the good thing is that the team controls its destiny.
