Youth friendly: Saudi Arabia – Macedonia 1:1

Moment from the game; photo: thesaff.com.saIn a friendly game played in Austria, the U21 team of Macedonia drew 1:1 against U20 national team from Saudi Arabia.

There were no goals in the first half although Macedonia won a penalty in the 20th minute when Aleksandar Trajkovski was fouled inside the area.  Ilija Nestorovski took the penalty but it was a weak attempt and the Saudi keeper ended up saving the penalty.

The game opened up in the second half and Macedonia came close to taking the lead in the 48th minute but Stefan Spirovski’s free kick hit the post.  Two minutes later, Nestorovski came close to scoring but his shot from about ten meters went just wide of the goal.  Saudi Arabia then took the lead in the 57th minute but Macedonia kept pressing and scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute.  Stefan Spirovski took a free kick from the left and the ball initially hit the back of Trajkovski before the ball redirected of the Saudi defender Abdullah Al-Hafiz to the back of the net.  Trajkovski was credited with the goal although it could have easily been an own goal.  The captain Goran Bogdanovic took a free kick from a good position in the 87th minute but his free kick went wide of the right goal post.  Macedonia had two more chances in stoppage time of the 90th minute but the first chance was barely missed by substitute Goran Siljanovski as he was set up perfectly by Aleksandar Stankov with a low pass but Siljanovski just missed the ball on his diving slide.  The final chance fell for Simeon Hristov in the fourth minute of stoppage time but his header following a corner kick went just wide of the goal.
