Ivan Trichkovski showcased a little bit of everything to score the game winning goal for Waasland-Beveren on Saturday.
The regular season in Belgium ended earlier this month, so today marked the first game of the Europa League play-off for Waasland Beveren. By barely avoiding relegation and finishing in 14th place in the 16 team Belgian league, Waasland-Beveren found itself in Group A of the Europa League play-off together with Lierse, Gent and Oostende.
On Saturday, Waasland-Beveren faced a home encounter against Lierse. Trichkovski opened the match on the bench before he was introduced in the 57th minute to replace Hanan Maman. Three minutes later, Ivan scored the first goal of the game which also proved to be the game winner in Waasland-Beveren’s 2:0 victory over Lierse.
Trichkovski showed his all around game on the goal. He first intercepted a pass on defense, then made a long run with several nice dribbles, then made an accurate pass to Dalibor Veselinović before scoring on an overhead kick from close range. Veselinović, after receiving the pass from Ivan, had his shot saved by the Lierse keeper, but Trichkovski capitalized on the rebound opportunity. Ivan first wanted to score with a header on the rebound, but he was a bit out of position so that caused his body to twist and it led to an overhead kick goal from close range.
The 1:0 lead for Waasland-Beveren stood until the 90th minute when Veselinović made it 2:0 with a nice header following a cross from the right by Aboubakar Oumarou.
