The draw for the Champions League Round of 16 took place today in Nyon, Switzerland where the eight matchups were announced.
Goran Pandev and Napoli will face Chelsea, while Ivan Trickovski and APOEL were drawn against French side Olympique Lyonnais. Napoli already played against an English opponent in the group stages and managed to collect four points from their two games against Manchester City. They will be hoping for more of the same against Chelsea, an experienced side that has been battle tested in this competition. Meanwhile, with APOEL winning their group, every second placed team wanted to be drawn with the Cypriot club and Lyon will now get that opportunity. However, APOEL was in first place for a reason and they will look to continue their improbable run in the competition against Lyon who barely reached this round on the last matchday.
APOEL, as a group winner, was seeded and will play their first match against Lyon on the road on either 14/15 or 21/22 February while the return leg will be played in Cyprus on 6/7 or 13/14 March. As for Napoli, it is vice versa since they finished in second place of their respective group. They will play their first match at home in Naples before the return leg takes place in London soon thereafter.
Below are the remaining six matchups from today’s draw:
AC Milan v Arsenal FC
FC Basel 1893 v FC Bayern München
Bayer 04 Leverkusen v FC Barcelona
PFC CSKA Moskva v Real Madrid CF
FC Zenit St Petersburg v SL Benfica
Olympique de Marseille v FC Internazionale Milano
