Filip Timov scored directly from a free kick to notch his first league goal for Aris Limassol in a match against the current table leaders in Cyprus.
In the 20th round of league play in the Cypriot top division, Aris Limassol hosted in-city rival AEL Limassol, the current leaders on the standings. Filip Timov started on the left wing for Aris Limassol in a 4-3-2-1 formation, and managed to score the lone goal for his team in the 40th minute. The goal came directly from a free kick after a terrible blunder by the visiting keeper allowed the ball to barely cross the line.
Timov ultimately played until the 63rd minute when he was substituted by Tom Daemen. Aris Limassol still led 1:0 at that point of the game, but AEL Limassol grabbed the equalizer in the 76th minute to take home a point. The match was very chippy with a total of 10 yellow cards between the two teams. Aris was shown four yellow cards, one of them falling to Timov in the 32nd minute.
Aris Limassol is currently in 12th place out of 14 teams in Cyprus, just one spot above the relegation zone. Timov has now collected one goal in his 12 league appearances this season.
