Teteks managed to defeat Skopje in the penalty shootout and remain in the First League for the 2012/13 season.
The first of two relegation/promotion play-off matches took place today. Teteks, the 10th placed side in the First League, faced third ranked Second League side Skopje on a neutral venue at the Pod Tumbe Kafe stadium in Bitola.
The match was not overly exciting. Both teams knew the stakes were high and played rather cautiously. Teteks controlled possession for the majority of the game, but Skopje had some dangerous moments with counter attacks, including hitting the post once.
The match was briefly interrupted just before halftime when Skopje’s manager Ljupcho Markovski received a red card, which caused the Skopje supporters to go irate. However, the match resumed with the Skopje manager leading the club from the stands.
It stayed 0:0 after 90 minutes so the match went into extra time. In extra time, Skopje kept falling down, looking to waste time, and it was no surprise that the match remained goalless and penalties would decide the outcome. All five Teteks players converted their spot kicks, while Skopje’s Alen Jasharovski was the lone player to miss as his effort was saved by Teteks keeper Jorde Georgievski.
