After reviewing the performances of Macedonian football players for 2011, we put a list of the best starting 11 during that span.
The Macedonian squad for 2011 will be a 3-4-2-1 formation that consists of the following players:
Edin Nuredinoski
Nuredinoski was the most consistent option at the goalkeeper position. He was a regular for the entire year at Ethnikos Achnas unlike some of his competitors like Tome Pacovski, Martin Bogatinov, and Darko Tofiloski. Edin is viewed as one of the top keepers in the Cypriot league.
Vance Sikov
The first centre back on the team of the year is Vance Sikov. Vance began 2011 at Ethnikos Achnas where he was one of the key players on the team before transferring to Volyn in the summer. Sikov concluded a successful season by being named the best player on Volyn on the club’s official website.
Nikolce Noveski
The veteran defender Nikolce Noveski also earned a place on the squad. The Mainz captain was instrumental in leading his club to a surprising 5th place finish last season which afforded Mainz the ability to participate in the Europa League qualifications. Noveski closed 2011 with a nagging thigh injury but did enough to win a place on the team of the year.
Daniel Mojsov
The third and final centre back on the team is Daniel Mojsov. Daniel played regularly for Vojvodina and won many admirers with his play over the year. Vojvodina is currently the third best team in Serbia behind Partizan and Crvena Zvezda but Mojsov helped his club reach the Serbian Cup final and has been drawing interest from foreign clubs such as Dynamo and Spartak Moskva from Russia.
Daniel Georgievski
The right attacking wingback on the squad will be Daniel Georgievski from Croatian club Šibenik. Georgievski was one of the few bright spots on his club team and his performances caught the eye of Macedonian manager John Toshack who summoned Daniel to the national team.
Muhamed Demiri
Demiri played regularly in defensive midfield for Swiss side Thun. After his club won promotion to the top division last season, they finished in 5th place and also hold the same position this season.
Slavco Georgievski
Georgievski was helped by the lack of depth and quality options in midfield to win a place on the team of the year. This is the most problematic area on the Macedonian national team and we came to the conclusion that Georgievski was the most deserving candidate. He is a key player for Neftçi who won the league title last season and participated in the Champions League qualifications. Neftçi is also in first place this season after the conclusion of the first half.
Goran Popov
The left attacking wingback in the squad will be Goran Popov from Dynamo Kyiv. Goran has shown the versatility to play any position on the left side. Popov was in solid form during 2011 and cemented a regular spot on the club with his play in both league games and in the European competitions. Goran was sidelined with an injury to close the year but did enough to edge Aleksandar Lazevski.
Goran Pandev
With a strong finish to 2011, Pandev won a place on the team of the year. Goran played for both Inter and Napoli during the year but his highlight of 2011 was the phenomenal game winning goal that Pandev scored for Inter on 16 March 2011 to propel his club to the next round of the Champions League and eliminate Bayern München from the competition. In the summer, Pandev moved on loan to Napoli and won a place on this team with a strong finish to end the year.
Ivan Trickovski
One of the easiest choices on the squad was the selection of Trickovski. Ivan was in great form for APOEL who won the league title in Cyprus and managed to reach the Champions League Round of 16. Tricko closed 2011 by scoring a hat-trick against AEK Larnaca to cap off a great year in his career.
Stevica Ristić
The lone striker role on the team of the year will be manned by Stevica Ristić. Stevica scored nine goals in only 13 league appearances for Suwon since he joined the club in the summer from Amkar.
