Bursaspor’s defender quickly decided upon Toshack’s offer by saying he only wants to play for his native Turkey.
The manager of Macedonia, John Toshack from Wales, promised suggesting the player to big clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona if Aziz chose Macedonia. However, the 21-year-old central defender announced today that he only wants to play for Turkey. The decision was to be expected since Aziz was born in Turkey and has made numerous appearances for the Turkish youth national teams. The only thing that connected Aziz to Macedonia was the fact that his father was born in Bitola but he was an ethnic Turk as well.
“My father originates from Macedonia and thus I was contacted by the Macedonian Football Federation. I refused the offer politely and thanked them for their interest. I am a Turk and my dream is to play for the national team of Turkey. I truly hope that my dream will come true in the near future.” Serdar told Bursaspor’s official website.
Although Serdar declined Toshack’s offer, this was a good attempt by the manager of the Macedonian national team. Toshack needs to approach other players of Macedonian origins who can help the national team. Some of those players include Marko Markovski (Xanthi), Aleksandar Ignjovski (Werder), Ben Kantarovski (Newcastle Jets), Filip Pivkovski (Blackburn), Dejan Trajkovski (Maribor), Jovan Markoski (Vorskla), and others. There are also good players, like Serdar, who originate from Macedonia such as Alexander Kacaniklic (Fulham), Izet Hajrović (Grasshoppers), Pajtim Kasami (Fulham), Emin and Benjamin Sulimani (Admira), and more.
