Round 22: Pelister – Makedonija 2:1

Pelister defeated Makedonija Gjorche Petrov 2:1 in the final match of the 22nd round of the First League.

Pelister joins a crowded top of the table in Macedonia’s top league after defeating Makedonija Gjorche Petrov in the final match of the 22nd round. Although the match started off terribly for Pelister by conceding a quick goal when visiting striker Ermedin Adem capitalized on a mistake by Goran Pashovski, the Bitola based club did respond well to eventually secure all three points.

Pelister took the initiative throughout the match but efficiency let them down on multiple occasions. For instance, they had 11 corners to Makedonija’s 1, but a different kind of set piece situation was needed for Pelister to tie the game. Bulgarian player Martin Kovachev tied the game at 1:1 in the 66th minute with a great goal directly from a free-kick. The home team was still not content with the score and they went all out looking for a winning goal. That happened late in the 90th minute when Dimitar Vodenicharov was fouled inside the area and the same player successfully converted the penalty to hand Pelister the win.

With this win, Pelister now has the same number of points as the three other teams at the top of the table.  Pelister joins Turnovo, Rabotnichki and Vardar with 38 points apiece. Like never before, we are entering the final 11 rounds with four teams tied for 1st place. Interestingly, in the next round Pelister will once again host Makedonija Gjorche Petrov.
