Preview: Macedonia – Canada

alt Towards the end of another (unsuccesful) football year for Macedonia, the national team will have a friendly match with the team of Canada.

In a time set by FIFA for play-off matches for World Cup, Macedonia will have to satisfy only with a couple of friendly matches. The first one will be played tomorrow in Strumica against the national team of Canada. Although Macedonia will play against Canada and against Iran on Wednesday, coach Mirsad Jonuz only chose to call one new name – Rabotnicki’s goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski.

The last friendly match for Macedonia was against Qatar and it ended in a 2-1 win for Macedonia with the two goals scored by Pandev. Once again coach Jonuz hopes that despite Pandev’s club problems he will have enough strength to show his talent and be team leader. And, for the first time from the beginning of the match Velice Sumulikoski will be the team captain. Against Qatar he was captain for some time after several subs were made, but now he will begin the match as a captain.

Macedonia and Canada have played one friendly match so far – on 18.05.1998 Canada won 1:0. For this match bookies set Macedonia at 2.00 for a victory while Canada are priced at 3.40. This North-American team have failed to qualify for the world cup in South Africa, just like Macedonia. They have ended on the last place in a group with 4 teams and they only gathered two points. It remains to be seen whether Strumica and Mladost stadium, home of Pandev, Stojkov, Goran and Robert Popov… will bring luck for Macedonia and the national team will note one more victory. The referees for this match are from Bulgaria and main will be Anton Guenov. The match is scheduled for 13.00 CET with a live minute-by-minute coverage by MacedonianFootball.com
