A difficult task stands in front of the Macedonian U21 national team when they visit England U21 in the qualifications tournament for EURO 2011.
Macedonia has only gathered one point from possible nine so far and that is not a result upon which can be built. Nevertheless, the players are not giving up ahead of the match and captain Vladimir Dimitrovski thinks that a repetition of the play in Prilep and just a bit luck is needed in order to surprise the favorites.
And truly, in Prilep Macedonia played a good game. They dominated through the first half and with Ibraimi’s fabulous long-range shot they were up by 1 in the first half. But, the better physical condition of the visitors seemed like crucial for the late win with a goal from 11 meters spot.
Coach Boban Babunski had squad problems and will have to do without internationals Fazli, Stankov and Selmani in this difficult trip. He did not called substitutions for these players. Now, it remains to be seen how the young players will cope with this challenge and whether they have the strength to repeat the successes that the seniors did it on two occasions when they managed to play two draws in England.
The match is scheduled for Friday, 20.45 and will be played in Coventry on the Ricoh Arena. Referee on the match will be Fredy Fautrel from France and he will be assisted by Fredji Harchay and Cyril Gringore.
