Right-back Aleksandar Todorovski of Polonia Warszawa edged Hristijan Dimoski and Stevica Ristić to become the player of the month for October.
The race for player of the month in October was close but in the end, we felt the most deserving candidate was defender Aleksandar Todorovski from Polish club Polonia Warszawa. He played in five matches during the month and was named man of the match on two occasions. Todorovski was also a part of a defense that kept two clean sheets during that span and managed to score a nice goal directly from a free kick in a Polish Cup game against Arka. Despite not playing at the beginning of the season, Todorovski has already become third in the overall rankings for the best player on the team according to fan voting by the Polonia Warszawa fans. He is highly rated in Poland and has now become one of the key players on the team. Todorovski likes to go forward from the right-back position and has contributed solid crosses to create chances for his teammates.
Todorovski managed to edge his two closest competitors for the month of October in Hristijan Dimoski and Stevica Ristić. Dimoski, an attacking midfielder from FK Ohrid, had great numbers in October with five goals and an assist but what hurt him was the quality of the competition. The Macedonian league is ranked very low in Europe and those numbers could have been a byproduct of the competition so Dimoski was not given the nod over Todorovski.
Meanwhile, Stevica Ristić was also a strong candidate with three goals in six matches for Suwon during October. Being a classic centre forward, Ristić depends on good service from his teammates to score goals. The league in South Korea is on par with the Polish league but what hurt Ristić was the red card in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League. The red card forced him to miss the return leg and Suwon was eventually eliminated from the competition. Ristić had good numbers but we felt Todorovski was the better choice for this month. Obviously, being a striker, Ristić scored more goals but based on overall play, Todorovski was chosen as the player of the month for October.
