Goran Pandev was given the nod in attack despite Ezequiel Lavezzi recovering from an injury.  With Pandev being in good form, the Napoli manager started Goran and had Lavezzi on the bench.  Pandev looked as the most threatening Napoli player and also scored the lone goal for his team in the 86th minute.

Goran scored with a nice header past the Siena keeper Gianluca Pegolo after a good cross from the left by Andrea Dossena.  It was an unusual goal for Pandev since he does not score many goals with headers.  In the ten minutes before his goal, Pandev had two very good chances but both chances were missed.  First, in the 76th minute, following a corner, the ball reached Pandev in front of goal but his effort from close range was blocked by an alert Siena defense.  Then, in the 82nd minute, Goran dribbled past two Siena players but his shot from the edge of the area took a deflection before going for a corner.

Pandev then scored a goal in the 86th minute to tie the game at 1:1 before coming close to scoring the game winner in the third minute of stoppage time.  Goran showed nice skill to control a cross from the left by Lavezzi, then made a good turn, but his left footed shot from a good position was saved by the Pegolo before going for another corner.

Napoli also missed a penalty in the 79th minute when Edinson Cavani’s spot kick was saved by Gianluca Pegolo who proved to be the man of the match for the home side, while Pandev got the highest mark in the away team.  With the disappointing draw, Napoli remained in 7th place of Serie A with 29 points, trailing table leaders Juventus by 12 points.
