Shkendija managed to eliminate its third Europa League opponent and get to the last round before the group stage.
Shkendija is definitely living a great European summer. The club from Tetovo for the first time in their short European history managed to eliminate a team, but now they even managed to get past three opponents and reach the last round before the group stage, the play-offs. Rabotnichki did the same on two occasion, but each time was failing the get past the last opponent, usually one of the better European sides, like Lazio and Rubin.
After a goalless first half, Shkendija become a much more defensive oriented after the break giving a total dominance to the hosts who had a mountain to climb having in mind the 2:0 loss in Skopje. Mladá Boleslav’s plan to score a much needed goal in the first half failed, but eventually they broke the dead lock in the 82nd minute when Lukáš Magera headed the ball past Zahov after a great cross from Ondřej Kúdela. That goal gave big hope to the hosts in the last moment of the game.
Despite the 1:0 defeat, Shkendija goes to the play-off after winning 2:1 on aggregate. Their last obstacle on the road to the group stage will be known on Friday at 13.00 CET when the Europa League draw will take place.
