Midweek internationals performances

Goran Pandev’s team, Galatasaray, sacked its manager after another loss, Daniel Mojsov and Brann secured relegation in Norway, while the teams of Arijan Ademi and Besart Abdurahimi were also eliminated from the Europa League.

UEFA Champions League, Group D, Anderlecht – Galatasaray 2:0
Goran Pandev was not summoned in the Galatasaray squad that made the trip to Belgium. Galatasaray eventually suffered another loss in the Champions League to clinch last place in the group. On Thursday, after a board meeting, the Turkish club decided to sack manager Cesare Prandelli. However, that is not likely to cause a change to Pandev’s status. He is no longer wanted at Galatasaray by ownership, and he will be looking for a new club during the winter transfer window.

UEFA Champions League, Group G, Sporting – Maribor 3:1
Agim Ibraimi opened on the bench for Maribor before he was introduced at the start of the 2nd half by Dare Vršič. Ibraimi was mostly quiet as Sporting added one more goal after the halftime break to collect the win. In the final matchday, if Maribor can beat Schalke 04 at home, then they will finish in 3rd place and will move over to the Europa League Round of 32. Any other result (loss or draw) will see them finish in last place, thus being eliminated from a UEFA competition.

UEFA Europa League, Group D, Astra – Dinamo Zagreb 1:0
Arijan Ademi did not feature for Dinamo Zagreb due to a yellow cards suspension. With this loss, Dinamo Zagreb was eliminated from the Europa League (as was Astra). Red Bull Salzburg and Celtic will be advancing from this group.

UEFA Europa League, Group L, Lokeren – Legia 1:0
Besart Abdurahimi was not included in the Lokeren squad due to a minor hip injury. Despite the win, Lokeren was eliminated from the competition. Lokeren trails second placed Trabzonspor by three points with one matchday remaining, but the Turkish club already won the head-to-head record from their two prior meetings. So, regardless of what Lokeren does in the final game against Metalist, it won’t be enough to overcome Trabzonspor. Legia, meanwhile, already clinched a spot in the next round as they won the first four matchdays in group play before losing this game to Lokeren.

UEFA Europa League, Group F, Saint-Étienne – Qarabağ 1:1
Muarem Muarem played all 90 minutes for Qarabağ who recorded a hard fought point against Saint-Étienne in France. Qarabağ will face Inter (already clinched top spot in group play) in the final matchday, and they will need a win or a draw to have a chance of finishing in second place. This is one group where the second, third and fourth ranked teams all have a chance heading into the final matchday.

Norway, Tippeligaen Play-off, Mjøndalen – Brann 3:0
Daniel Mojsov did not play for Brann due to an ankle injury. Brann lost 4:1 on aggregate over the two games against Mjøndalen to be relegated to the Norwegian second division. On Thursday, one day after this match, Brann announced on their website that they have terminated the contract of Mojsov. Daniel had a contract until next summer, but he was quoted as saying that he didn’t want to play in the second division, leading to the decision.

Switzerland, Challenge League, Servette – Schaffhausen 1:1
Ezgjan Alioski played the entire game for Schaffhausen as each team scored one goal in the 2nd half to settle for the draw.

Azerbaijan, Topaz Premyer Liqası, Khazar Lankaran – Neftçi 2:2
Dejan Blazhevski was an unused substitute for Khazar Lankaran.
