Vardar opened pretty slow against Renova and fell behind 1:0 in the 20th minute when defender Miroslav Vajs scored an own goal.  Vardar played better as the game went on, especially in the second half with the introduction of midfielders Igor Stojaković and Osa Guobadia.  The home side Vardar controlled the second half but did not score the equalizer until the 90th minute when attacking midfielder Ostoja Stjepanovikj leveled the score at 1:1.  Thus, the return leg in Tetovo will ultimately decide which team reached the Macedonian Cup final.

In the other semifinal matchup, Rabotnichki also played a 1:1 home draw against Horizont Turnovo.  Attacker Aleksandar Pandovski gave Rabotnichki the initial lead in the 22nd minute but the visitors kept on battling and the 21-year-old Dragan Gjorgiev, who returned from serving a two game red card suspension, tied the game in the 81st minute to hand Turnovo an important away goal.

The return legs of both matchups will be played on 2 May to determine which two teams will advance to the domestic cup final.
