The last matchday of the qualifications for the EURO 2012 U17 championship took place today. Macedonia U17 needed a win against San Marino but also a Sctoland win over Turkey in the other game of the group.  Goran Petreski’s boys did their job and won 5:0 against San Marino but Scotland and Turkey shared the points, thus leaving Macedonia in third place.

Rabotnicki’s Darko Velkovski opened the scoring in the 9th minute when he successfully converted a penalty after Bojan Spirkovski was fouled inside the area.  Daniel Avramovski, also from Rabotnicki, doubled the lead three minutes later and then added his second goal of the game in the 26th minute to give Macedonia U17 a 3:0 lead.  Just before halftime, Demir Imeri of Vlazrimi made it 4:0 and the same player scored the final goal of the game in the 51st minute to cement the 5:0 scoreline.

However, Turkey and Scotland played a 1:1 draw today in the other game of the group so they qualified for the Elite Round, while Macedonia did not manage to be among the two best third-place teams.  For that position, only points gathered from the matches against the winners and the runners-up of each group were considered and Macedonia racked up only 1 point from those two matches against Scotland and Turkey.  Bulgaria of Group 8 also had 1 point but the better goal difference, while Wales of Group 9 had 3 points.  Furthermore, not all groups are still completed so this situation might change but it would not be in Macedonia’s favor.

Macedonia’s line-up: Siskovski, Trajkovik, Spirkovski (73′ Saiti), Zajkov (c), Sulejmani, Imeri, Velkovski, Babunski (62′ Mustafa), Avramovski, Zlatanov (41′ Naumovski), Markovski.
