Defender Boban Grncharov is currently in Ukraine where, if everything goes as expected, he should become a member of top division side Tavriya.
Earlier on Monday, shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or, Boban Grncharov published a post on facebook congratulating Ronaldo and his club team Real Madrid. Boban’s post was sent from a mobile device that said his location was in the Crimea region of Ukraine. That region has two teams that play in the Ukrainian top division in Tavriya and Sevastopol.
However, since Tavriya was speculated as one of the favorites to land Grncharov after his contract was terminated by Botev Plovdiv, he is likely there to negotiate contract terms with them. Additionally, Tavriya recently named a new manager in Bulgarian Nikolay Kostov, who has good connections with football in his native country and thus has a good understanding of Grncharov’s abilities.
Tavriya is looking to strengthen its team in the winter transfer window after finishing the first half of the season just one point above the relegation zone. Tavriya has conceded 30 goals from its 18 league games, among the worst mark in the league, so improving the defense will be a top priority for Kostov. Grncharov is an experienced CB who has already played in Ukraine earlier in his career with Metalurh Donetsk and then Stal Alchevsk, so he should adjust quickly if he reaches an agreement with Tavriya.
