Goran Popov likely to opt for operation on his knee

Goran Popov will arrive in Italy over the weekend where he will make the final decision about the knee operation.  Popov said the following to Dynamo Kyiv’s website, “First of all, my knee will be examined this upcoming Monday in Italy before the final decision is made about the operation.  However, most likely, an operation will be needed.  The injury is nothing serious, just a damaged meniscus, so there is no cause for concern.  I did a similar operation two years ago while I was playing for Heerenveen in the Netherlands.  In three days after the surgery, I will be able to walk while I should begin light training in about 15-20 days.  It’s better not to delay the operation and get it done as soon as possible.  I should fully recover sometime in January and will be available for the preparations during the long winter break.  I should easily be available for the second half of the season which begins in early March of 2012.”

Therefore, with the injury, Popov is expected to miss the remaining four league games before the long winter break in Ukraine and two Europa League games of Group E in the competition.
