Goran Pandev credited with assist for Napoli

Pandev and Napoli defeated InterAttacker Goran Pandev provided an assist for Napoli who reached the semi-finals of the Italian Cup by eliminating Inter.

Goran Pandev started the game on the bench for Napoli before he came on in the 65th minute replacing fellow attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi.  Pandev was credited with an assist on the second goal for Napoli in the third minute of stoppage time which secured the 2:0 win for the home side over Inter.  However, the goalscorer Edinson Cavani did most of the work as Goran was pretty fortunate to be given the assist.  Inter pushed numerous players forward since they needed a goal so on a counter attack, the ball reached Pandev who then found Cavani who went around both defender Andrea Ranocchia and keeper Luca Castellazzi to score a goal into an empty net.  It was the second goal of the game for Cavani who originally gave Napoli the 1:0 lead in the 51st minute when he converted a penalty after the same player was fouled in the area by Thiago Motta.

During his 25 minutes on the pitch, Pandev attempted one shot towards goal in the 71st minute but his volley, after being set up by Cavani, went well over the goal.  Pandev also thought he won a penalty in the 90th minute when he went down inside the area but the referee waved play on.  Soon thereafter, Napoli scored their second goal of the game which ensured the victory over Inter.

With the 2:0 win, Napoli advanced to the semi-finals of the Italian Cup where they will face Siena who defeated Chievo 1:0 earlier in the day.  The victory was extra special for Pandev since it came against Inter, the club who sent him on loan to Napoli for this season.
