Getting to know series: Denis Mahmudov

Denis Mahmudov made headlines recently when he transferred to Dutch top division side Zwolle.  He moved there from a third division side Excelsior ’31 where he scored 35 goals in 42 league games.

Since he was not known to most Macedonian football supporters, we decided to reach out to Mahmudov for a quick interview.  The 24-year-old talked about how long he has lived in the Netherlands, his preferred position on the field, his strengths, areas he needs to work on, and whether he would be interested in representing Macedonia.

Mahmudov also told us that he holds a Macedonian passport.

Here is the brief Q and A session that we did with Mahmudov:

MF: Tell us a little more about you.  When did your family immigrate to the Netherlands?
DM: I have lived in the Netherlands for 9 years.

MF: What is your best position on the football field?
DM: My best position is on the left wing and CF.

MF: What are your biggest strengths and where do you see room for improvement?
DM: I have a big desire to score goals.  I don’t know where I may need to get better, maybe just get stronger physically.

MF: Tell us how your transfer to Zwolle came about?
DM: I played for Excelsior where I scored many goals, and other teams, not just Zwolle, showed interest.

MF: Do you have an interest to wear the Macedonian jersey in the future if manager Boshko Gjurovski decides to call you up?
DM: With joy I would wear the Macedonian jersey.  I’m hopeful that the manager will call me up.
