Ethnikos game postponed due to suspicious betting

The return leg of the Cypriot Cup matchup between Aris and Ethnikos was postponed due to unusually high betting activity for such a game.

The Cypriot Football Association postponed the match at around 14:00 CET, two hours before the match was slated to start.  The reason being unusually high betting activity for such a game.  Thus, Ethnikos Achnas, which features Macedonian players Edin Nuredinoski and Stojan Ignjatov along with manager Cedomir Janevski, did not have a chance to defend their 2:0 lead from the first leg.

On one betting company in “Betfair,” at around 14:00 CET, the betting on this game reached nearly 160,000 euros with 141,573 euros being wagered for an Ethnikos Achnas win on the road.  The betting activity started to pick up considerably between 10:00 and 14:00 CET so the decision was made to postpone the match to a later date.  This was the second time that a game has been postponed in Cyprus after an encounter between Enosis and Ermis was called off earlier this season for the same reason.  Interestingly, that match was made up today and Enosis celebrated a narrow 1:0 victory with Petar Milosevski and Bojan Markoski playing the entire game for the winning side.
