The company “Ecolog International” has decided to take charge of Shkendija, a club that was facing financial difficulties last season.
The move by Ecolog International to take charge of FK Shkendija was announced today by Lazim Destani, the father of the company’s founder and chairman Nazif Destani. Ecolog International is headquartered in Dubai, but does have a location in the Macedonian city of Tetovo as well which is where Shkendija is based from.
Shkendija’s supporters began a social media campaign to get Ecolog to take over Shkendija, a club that was mired in financial difficulties last season that resulted in many of its players leaving the club earlier in the summer. The fans reached out to players like Lorik Cana and Xherdan Shaqiri to help spread their message, and Ecolog responded favorably to take over the club.
In a statement on Ecolog’s official website, Destani stated, “Our goal overall is transform the Shkëndija Football Club to become a reference, professionally managed and abiding by the principles and rules of sport. Rules should not be merely words written on paper, but reflected in our everyday actions and for every game, starting from the behavior of fans, club officials, and respect for the opponents, the referees, and positive spirit.”
Shkendija will hold a press conference in the coming days to introduce the new management leading the club and its plans for the upcoming season and beyond.
With the 2013-14 Macedonian season set to get underway this weekend, Shkendija will have to quickly assemble a team. Only a few players remain from last season’s squad due to financial difficulties, as previously mentioned. However, now with Ecolog on board, Shkendija should have the resources to field a competitive team. Some of the players that are rumored to be on Shkendija’s wish list of signings include Besart Ibraimi, Nebi Mustafi, Nderim Nedzipi and Ferhan Hasani.
Shkendija faces Turnovo at home during the first round of the upcoming season, set to take place on 4 August.
