Defender Boban Grncarov has been suspended six games by the sports committee of the Belgian football association.
The suspension is a result of the recent incident in which Grncarov pulled the hair of Standard Liège defender Felipe. Boban’s actions provoked Felipe who then pushed Grncarov and both players were shown red cards by the referee. Also, as Boban was leaving the pitch, he kicked the shin of another Standard Liège player while Felipe was irate and tried to charge Boban for having been sent off.
Thus, the sports committee punished both players with lengthy suspensions as Felipe was given a four match suspension for his actions. Boban was given an extra two games because he started the altercation. Both Grncarov and Felipe can appeal the sentence.
Lierse was supposed to play the return leg of their semi-final matchup against Lokeren in the Belgian Cup today, but the match was postponed after the referee evaluated the pitch. The freezing conditions have taken a toll so the match will be rescheduled for a later date.
