Aleksandar Stankov scored his third goal of the Danish season during Friday’s game between Viborg and top ranked side Midtjylland.
The 22-year-old Aleksandar Stankov started in midfield for Viborg in their 4-4-2 formation against table leaders Midtjylland. In the 61st minute, with Viborg trailing 0:1, Stankov received a good cross from the left hand side and sent a header past the visiting keeper. However, Midtjylland responded rather quickly when they retook the lead in the 64th minute. The lead for the visitors was then extended to 1:3 in the 86th minute before Viborg scored a consolation goal in the 89th minute to complete the 2:3 scoreline for Midtjylland.
The win moved Midtjylland to an even 30 points after 15 league games, exactly 10 points ahead of Viborg, who is tied for 4th place on the standings with København.
Stankov has taken part, whether as a starter or coming off the bench, in all 15 games for Viborg this season. However, Aleksandar collected his fourth yellow card of the 2013-14 campaign in Friday’s game, so he will be suspended for the next game due to a yellow cards suspension. Stankov’s 3 goals are second on his team behind Thomas Dalgaard’s 10 goals.
Aleksandar Stankov is a former member of the Macedonian U21 national team, and has a twin brother in Antonio Stankov who plays in the Netherlands with MVV Maastricht. In their current and previous clubs, the Stankov twins have been mostly known for their gray hair, despite their relatively young age.
