Defender Goran Popov made his season debut for Dynamo Kyiv in the first leg of his club’s Champions League matchup against Feyenoord in the third qualifying round.
Goran Popov missed the first league games of the 2012/13 Ukrainian season as he was recovering from an injury, but was given a start during today’s first leg of Dynamo’s matchup against Dutch side Feyenoord in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Popov started at left back and played all 90 minutes as Dynamo Kyiv celebrated a 2:1 victory. Despite the win, Dynamo Kyiv will be disappointed to have only won by one goal as they controlled the match and had numerous chances to increase the lead heading into the return leg next week.
In other news that might be bad for Popov, Dynamo Kyiv announced today that they have signed Taye Taiwo on loan from AC Milan. Taiwo is primarily a left back so his arrival at Dynamo Kyiv could result in Popov losing his starting job. Goran has battled injury problems over the past couple of years, and now Dynamo Kyiv has decided to add another option at the left back position with the signing of Taiwo.
