Cup: Eight-finals draw made

The draw for the eight-finals of the Macedonian Cup was concluded today at FFM’s House of football.

The draw included 6 second-league teams and 10 first-league teams, i.e. the winners of the first round, as well as last year’s finalists Vardar and Struga, who received a bye in the eight-finals.

The draw was without seeded teams, meaning all 16 participants were drawn from a single pot and anyone could be draw against anyone. Thus, fortune favored second-league sides Belasica and Detonit Plachkovica to play each other, which means that one second-league side will definitely be in the quarterfinals.

The lots did not bring any derby. Defending champion Vardar will face second league side Novaci, there will be three top flight clashes between Bashkimi and Sileks, Shkëndija – Tikvesh and Makedonija GjP – Struga, while Rabotnichki, Pelister and Shkupi got luckier and will face second league teams.

Round of 16 matches:

Makedonija GjP (1) – Struga (1)
Ohrid Lychnidos (2) – Shkupi (1)
Vardar (1) – Novaci (2)
Bashkimi 1947 (1) – Sileks (1)
Shkëndija (1) – Tikvesh (1)
Rabotnichki (1) – Bregalnica (2)
Shkëndija 77 (2) – Pelister (1)
Belasica (2) – Det. Plachkovica (2)

The round of 16 will be played as a single match, and if there is no winner after 90 minutes, there will be no extra time but will go directly to penalty kicks.

The matches are scheduled for two dates: 24 September and 29 October. Given that Vardar and Pelister that week have a friendly scheduled against Preston Lions, the Macedonian club from Australia, they will certainly play in the second date. Also, the matches featuring Shkëndija and Rabotnichki will be played in the second date because these two teams are will play the postponed match from the Round 4 in the first league next week.
