30 years after the Ohrid matches for Guinness

On June 24, 1979 in Ohrid’s regional league, Ilinden 903 defeated Mladost from Vapila with 134:1 while Debarca from Belchishta won away to Gradinar with 0:88.

30 years passed since the matches for the Guinness book of records played in Ohrid when 223 goals were scored in total. Ilinden 903 and Debarca were leveled on the top of the Ohrid’s regional league and were fighting for promotion in the Pelagonia’s regional league. Debarca had only one goal advantage in front of the last round, so both teams had to be sure that they will score more goals in the last round.

There were no mobile phones at that time, but both teams managed to get information from the pitches. Their “spies” were hiding on the surrounding trees and local houses near the fields.

On the match played in Dolno Lakocherej between Gradinar and Debarca which ended with 0:88, according to some information the guests had 0:57 lead until the last minutes of the match. But then they found out that Ilinden 903 had bigger lead on the other match, the match was played for extra 25 minutes and Debarca managed to win with “only” 0:88.

Ilinden 903 had only 11:0 lead on the half time but because of the big rain the second half started 25 minutes later. At that moment they found out Debarca had a lead of 0:40 so the scorers became more active. Goals were scored on almost every 30 seconds, so at the end Ilinden celebrated with 134:1 and got promoted.
