After Chedomir Janevski decided to leave the managerial post of the Macedonian national team for Belgian club Most, FFM has quickly announced that Zoran Stratev will lead the national team in the October qualifying matches against Wales and Serbia, both on the road.

Stratev was coordinator of the youth national teams before today’s appointment that he will become the caretaker manager of the national team. In his coaching career, Stratev led Vardar in 2003 when the club was on the verge of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, and also years later in the 2010/11 season when Vardar was supposed to be relegated. Stratev was also Rabotnichki’s manager in 2010 when Rabotnichki faced Liverpool in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.

FFM announced that Janevski was offered an improved contract to remain manager for the next qualifications, but he opted to pursue the managerial position of Belgian club Mons.

Petar Miloshevski, the national team sports director, stated, “As a federation, we believed in Janevski’s qualities as a coach.  We thought his character brought progress to the national team, especially in the improved play of the team, the motivation among the players, and the discipline and commitment.  Overall, the atmosphere improved around the national team.  For those reasons, we truly believed that he would accept the new contract and lead our team in the next qualifications as well.”

Miloshevski added, “We wish Chedomir Janevski luck in his future professional career, but we at the federation, after these two upcoming qualifiers, will have enough time to find a quality solution for a new manager, someone with even greater enthusiasm, desire and passion to contribute to the further development of Macedonian football.”
