Waasland-Beveren wants to retain Ivan Trichkovski

Trichkovski after his goal for Waasland-Beveren against Club BruggeThe CEO of Waasland-Beveren, Dirk Poppe, told a Belgian newspaper on Friday that his team would like to keep hold of Ivan Trichkovski with a permanent transfer.

Ivan Trichkovski spent this past season on loan at Waasland-Beveren from fellow Belgian club Club Brugge.  Trichkovski improved as the season went on and ended the campaign with 5 goals in 33 league appearances.  Waasland-Beveren made it cleat today that it wants to make Ivan’s stay with their team permanent.

Speaking to a newspaper, the club’s CEO said, “We are currently working on retaining Trichkovski.  We will soon meet with Club Brugge to negotiate a permanent transfer for Ivan.”

Trichkovski spent the 2012-13 campaign with Club Brugge, but it was a season to forget as he only notched 1 goal in the 19 league games.  He also dealt with nagging injuries and was under constant criticism of the Club Brugge fans who considered his transfer from APOEL a colossal failure.

Club Brugge is currently managed by Michel Preud’homme, someone who did not coach Ivan during his one season there.  Instead, Trichkovski played under managers Georges Leekens and Juan Carlos Garrido who were both later fired by Club Brugge.  So, could Michel Preud’homme be open to seeing Trichkovski at Club Brugge?  It’s tough to say at this point.

Ivan did score a goal when Waasland-Beveren defeated Club Brugge 2:1 in December of 2013.  Trichkovski did not celebrate the goal out of respect for Club Brugge, so maybe his preferred choice is to prove himself there and win over the fans as opposed to remaining with Waasland-Beveren, a team that is much less prestigious than Club Brugge.  Regardless, we should know where Ivan will spend next season in the near future.
