Defender Boban Grncharov is no longer a Tavriya player as his contract was mutually terminated earlier this month.
Boban Grncharov joined Tavriya this past January and his stint lasted about four months. Grncharov ended up making 8 league appearances, his last appearance coming on 28 April in the match between Tavriya – Vorskla. Boban then mysteriously did not play in the next two games, with no reason being given by Tavriya, but now we know that he was in the process of terminating his contract.
Grncharov, who turns 32 years old this August, now becomes a free agent. He had originally transferred to Tavriya after being released by Botev Plovdiv due to an altercation with the club’s sporting director. Grncharov was well liked by Botev fans and wanted to stay there, but then the altercation with the sporting director occurred, leading to his release. In Tavriya, things quickly spiraled out of control due to the tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Tavriya is based in the Crimea region, the place that has seen heavy tensions. As a matter of fact, Tavriya actually wants to play in the Russian league next season, not Ukraine, so their future direction is uncertain.
Look for Vardar as a potential dark horse candidate to sign Grncharov this summer. There will be some notable Macedonian internationals linked with Vardar this season, but many of those rumors will be unrealistic. However, given Grncharov’s age and unceremonious exits at his last two stops, Vardar might stand a good chance to capture Boban’s signature. Grncharov grew up in the Vardar youth academy and began his professional career there.
