Vorskla aiming to keep Adis Jahovikj

The biggest problem for Vorskla is the current situation in their country and subsequently their league.  Ever since tensions arose between Ukraine and Russia, several teams in the league that come from Russian speaking towns have asked to play in Russia next season, not Ukraine.  That has created a lot of doubt about the future of the Ukrainian league.  Furthermore, Adis is married with a young child, and may want to move his family to a safer environment.  Earlier in the month, Swiss newspapers linked Jahovikj with a move back to Switzerland (he played there before moving to Vorskla in late August of 2013).  In our interview with Jahovikj last month, which you can read here, Adis said the following when comparing the leagues in Switzerland and Ukraine, “I think more football is played in Switzerland as opposed to Ukraine.  Tactically and football wise, Switzerland is a stronger league than Ukraine.  However, the conditions in Ukraine, especially financially, are better than Switzerland.”

Jahokij has played in 20 competitive matches (18 in league play, 2 in domestic cup) for Vorskla this season, scoring 7 goals along the way.  Last month, he scored in back-to-back games against the two biggest clubs in Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv.

Yesterday, the Vorskla manager told newspapers that his team is working hard to re-sign Jahovikj, but at this time Adis has been hesitant to sign a new deal.  Instead, it now appears more likely that Adis will test the market this summer before deciding where to continue his career.
