Volyn failed to reach cup final

Vance Sikov, Dusan Savic and Volyn put in a resilient effort against Shakhtar Donetsk but fell short of reaching the Ukrainian Cup final.

The Ukrainian Cup semifinal matchup between Volyn and Shakhtar Donetsk, just like the previous rounds of the competition, was decided over one leg to determine which club would reach final.  Of the four remaining team in the competition, Volyn received the toughest opponent, Shakhtar Donetsk, in the draw but the match was at home for Volyn.

Volyn battled for the entire game but came up just short by losing 3:4 to be eliminated from the Ukrainian Cup.  Both Macedonian internationals on Volyn, Vance Sikov and Dusan Savic, played the entire game in the narrow loss.  Sikov was also shown a yellow card in the 30th minute as he played a part in the second goal for Volyn in the 84th minute.  Vance took a free kick from distance which was blocked but the ball then found his teammate Lopes who fired a shot past the opposing keeper.

Tomorrow, the other semifinal matchup will be played between Metalurh Donetsk and Karpaty, the team of Macedonian goalkeeper Martin Bogatinov.  The winner of that game will then face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Cup final.
