Long time the Macedonian league didn’t have a foreign national team player until this Wednesday when Hovhannes Hambardzumyan played for Armenia.
All the three Armenians at Vardar (Hovhannes Hambardzumyan, Artak Dashyan and Artur Miranyan) received a national team call for their country’s friendly against Latvia and the 2016 EURO qualifier against Denmark, both away. In the Latvia friendly featured only Hambardzumyan, while Dashyan and Miranyan were unused substitutes. Hambardzumyan, who also started on the bench, entered the field in the 71st minute replacing Levon Hayrapetyan. The score at that time was 1:0, while four minutes after his entrance the hosts scored their second and eventually won 2:0.
For Hambardzumyan, who plays as right back, this was 9th appearance for Armenia after his debut in 2010. The offensive midfielder Dashyan has only 4 appearances since 2009, while 18-year old striker Miranyan is waiting for his debut as recently he switched from Ukraine where he played for the U19, U18 and U17 national teams.
The Vardar trio will have another chance for playing internationally as Armenia visits Denmark on Sunday in the opening round of the 2016 EURO qualifications.
